Write 500 Words a Day
30 days · Creativity
A month of daily writing - 15,000 words by day 30.
Five hundred words is about 20 minutes of honest typing, and stacking 30 days of it gives you 15,000 words - half a novella, a month of blog posts, or a genuinely started book. The only rule is the count; quality is tomorrow's problem.
The rules
- Write 500 new words every day - journal, fiction, blog, anything.
- Editing doesn't count toward the 500. New words only.
- Hit the count, check the box, stop or keep going - your call.
Tips from people who finished
- Lower the bar on bad days: 500 terrible words still count. That's the design.
- Same file, same time, same chair. Ritual outwrites inspiration.
- Never end at a section break - park mid-sentence and tomorrow starts itself.
Track it properly
The difference between "trying" this challenge and finishing it is usually a visible calendar. Create yours and you get:
- A 30-day calendar you tick off daily - with streaks and completion stats computed live.
- Achievement badges (day 1, 7-day streak, halfway, finisher…).
- A share link so a friend can watch and keep you honest - see the accountability playbook.
- A printable version for the fridge.
